FTGX- Infonet Awards FiberNet Contract for Optical Wavelength Services
Wednesday, December 01, 2004 07:55 ET
NEW YORK, Dec 1, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --FiberNet Telecom Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: FTGX), a leading provider of managed network services, today announced that Infonet Services Corporation, (NYSE: IN), a leading provider of global communications services for multinationals, has entered into an agreement with FiberNet to obtain optical wavelength services and other comprehensive broadband connectivity solutions.
The agreement calls for FiberNet to supply Infonet with a 2.5 Gigabit wavelength to interconnect its points-of-presence within major carrier hotels in New York City and New Jersey. FiberNet will also distribute and exchange Infonet's traffic with other carriers within key carrier hotels. Additionally, Infonet will utilize FiberNet's network construction services to build fiber lateral entrance facilities into its New Jersey network node.
Michael Liss, President and CEO of FiberNet, said, "We value Infonet's confidence in FiberNet for this network deployment. Our agreement with Infonet illustrates how our broad range of connectivity services and extensive suite-to-suite network reach adds value to our customers for their critical, high-bandwidth network backbone traffic."
By providing these network services, FiberNet will help Infonet extend the reach of its World Network(R), accessible from more than 180 countries and 3,000 cities around the world. Recently, Infonet introduced new enhanced IP Voice and IP Video services to its multinational customer base. The introduction of these services requires continued high performance and reliability in The World Network. As such, FiberNet's reliability and suite-to-suite network reach were key factors behind Infonet's decision to utilize FiberNet's wavelength services.
John Yates, Manager of Optical Infrastructure at Infonet said, "Infonet has excelled at serving the communications demands of major multinationals, and part of the reason for this success has been choosing the right partners to extend the reach of our own network. The flexibility, rapid provisioning times, and reliability of FiberNet's wavelength services were key selling points, allowing us to expand our network footprint quickly and efficiently, without unnecessary investment in facilities-based network infrastructure."
FiberNet's wavelength services enable carriers to design and operate their own high capacity networks without having to build or acquire fiber, accelerating time to market with limited network investment. Carrier and enterprise customers can use FiberNet's wavelength services to ensure network diversity and redundancy, extend geographic reach, connect multiple regional access hubs, and quickly add capacity to existing network routes.
