Dew and jbog or anyone,

Here's one of my simple-minded questions: Why do generic drug makers make their generics that are not exactly equivalent to the branded drug? Is it really that difficult to make an exact copy once they're got the active ingredients the same?

(I have two friends who have had difficulty with a generic form of Wellbutrin. The problems of generic Wellbutrin have been well-publicized on the Internet. But reading about the whole problem made me wonder why the generic drugs are not exact copies of the originals.)
