Dear Elmer. RE: Intel Capital has invested more than US$9.5 billion in over 1,050 companies in 47 countries.
Intel pissed away a lot of money during the dotcom days. I wonder what the current value is of those investments?
I believe that your assumption that most of the investment by Intel Capital (IC) was invested “during the dotcom days” is wrong. Let me quote from the same press release: “In 2009, Intel Capital invested US$327 million in 107 investments with approximately 38 percent of funds invested outside the U.S. and Canada”.
I hop you would not distract the readers of my post # 88009 titled, “A sudden increase in the real value of Intel”:
“I am surprise by the lack of interest in the very significant move by the China ‘s sovereign wealth fund to move its multibillion dollar investment from the US Treasury to a "collaboration" with Intel Capital. The chief investment officer of the China Investment Corporation (CIC) stated thet "We look forward to working with Intel Capital to identify the next generation of ground breaking technologies."
The immediate effect of this extraordinary collaboration is a sudden increase in the liquidity (i.e. value) of Intel’s $9.5 billion illiquid investment.
In addition Intel Capital will be transformed into an Investment "advisor" for China, that is associated with a very significant earnings that does not require building of Fabs and payment of salaries and bonuses.
