This may be new but its more of the same thing we keep seeing with sons...continues the mysery why as voip explodes at a compounding rate of 40% plus for years to come, folks like Cody Willard think its early, and why sons isn't ALWAYS mentioned. It may simply be pro's worried about the accounting issues.

And NT is the big winner here, but its as far from a pure play as one can get. Poor NT: well positioned in fo, voip, and wireless and it can't add:

Carrier VOIP Equipment Rises 51%

BETHESDA, Md. -- According to DITTBERNER's Worldwide NGN Quarterly Shipments Analysis, worldwide Media Gateway and Softswitch IP port shipments increased by 51.2% over the last quarter.

Nortel leads the worldwide softswitch market in the third quarter of 2004 with 24.83% of port shipments. Huawei Technologies is second with 21.86% market share. Sonus, Siemens and Italtel rounded out the top five vendors.

Aggressive deployments in China and network migration projects in North America propelled the worldwide VoIP equipment market to record growth in the third quarter of 2004. On a regional basis, sales of softswitches and media gateways in Asia Pacific were particularly strong.
