wbmw, prices for plastic surgery coming down. Mostly, not covered by insurance, the docs in heavy competition for business, lower prices. The medical profession is where costs are out of control. Insurance a reflection of the costs, not the cause. 20 years ago there were 50 to a 100 health insurance companies to choose from in each state. Now there are 3 or 4 if you are lucky. Companies withdrew or went out of busness as (you are dead wrong) loads of rules and regulations were piled on saying what they couldn't do. It takes a large pool to make insurance work, when heavily structured, so smaller companies had no chance, as usual in our nation, the big business win again. The health care delivery business is rife with fraud and waste particularly with Medicare. We would have been better off to have had a single payor system from day 1 when Medicare was instituted. Or in my opinion it is a terrible mistake when the government gets into a business. Should have been unconstitutional. Bureaucracies funded by the largess have no motivation to keep costs down, in fact the more spent the bigger the budget and staff. When 60 min confronted the head of Fraud and Waste at Medicare said there was not much they could do to stop it. Her fained concern made it clear that If she did her job too well and cut out the fraud and waste about a third of her employers budget and employees would not be needed. See for yourself. Your government at work >>> http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/10/23/60minutes/main5414390.shtml Total scam operations get easy money. Your money down the drain. But worse, since Medicare can dictate what it pays, the medical industry has been allowed to "Cost Shift" a lovely practice where what they don't collect from those who can't pay or from Medicare underpayments, gets 'shifted' over to the bills covered by insurance driving up costs. They get to shift we get the shaft. If they want to reform Health Care start with the Fraud and Waste and let's go from there. The 'System' is such a mixed up scam, trying to 'fix' what we have is a joke. To really Reform, it will take a total dismantle and build from the ground up. Or as I have posted before some kind of single payer system for the high cost claims and insurance to a threshold but the same avialability to all. Why do wealthy seniors get a cushy health care plan at a tremendously reduced cost, while starving young families pay into FICA for a benefit they don't have now and will never see. Answer that!
