Sparky: They are in desperate survival mode, trying to arrange a deal, any deal, that will keep them viable (and employed) for a few more years. They have never been that forthcoming in providing news for their shareholders. My holding in COR is no more than an afterthought for me at this point. I've basically written it off as an entire loss. If they survived I'd be pleasantly surprised....like winning a small lottery prize with the purchase of a single ticket. But I hold no great expectations for them. Not at this point.
I'm down to 4 individual stocks at this point, COR, AVII, CVM and PPHM. All have been a challenge. I'm slightly underwater on AVII and PPHM, both of which have the most potential. I'm slightly profitable on CVM and they are starting a Phase III this summer with their Multikine drug. AVII just got awarded European orphan drug status for their exon-skipping drug for Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy. I think the drug is a slam dunk, but that does not mean it will be explosively profitable. It is a limited market drug, given infrequently. It will be a great service to mankind, but not all that profitable. Still, some profit and the recognition of success will be helpful going forward. PPHM could either be a stunning success or an abysmal failure. They are showing a lot of insider buying lately, and they have managed to add some important staff with years of knowledge and success in getting drugs through the FDA approval process. Their drug for cancer would eventually be used in ALL solid tumor cancers. A version of it MAY find its way into an AIDS therapy protocol and its broad anti viral properties would be applicable to a vast variety of viral diseases, from bio terror weapons to the flu. The potential is great. The follow through has been spotty and prolonged. But they might have turned the corner with their reverse split in 2009 and the addition of all the Pharmaceutical industry talent. They also have a profitable subsidiary (AVID) that has money earning contracts to manufacture drugs for other companies. AVID has helped PPHM reduce their burn rate substantially. I'm hoping they get some help with their Phase III (or IIB) studies. If they try to go it alone they'll need to do several more PIPEs over the next 5 years and I'm kind of sick of that approach. It's a death spiral downward. Once you have successfuly Phase II's the company has to partner up with Big Pharma, even it means less profit for management down the road. I'd rather make 10 times my investment with a Phase III partnership than risk getting nothing in the hopes of a 100 X winner by going it alone.
