"The United States Congress has yet to pass any of the proposed appropriations that would fund a massive electrification drive by the U.S. Postal Service. Nonetheless, the post office is moving ahead with a test program in Washington, D.C. that will see some of the ubiquitous white boxes be converted to battery power.
Quantum Technologies of Irvine, CA is one of five companies selected (we don't yet know who the others are) to convert one of the Grumman LLV (long-life vehicle) delivery trucks to electric drive. Quantum will use its Quantum Quiet electric power train with a lithium ion battery pack. The delivery vehicles have a typical route of 20-25 miles a day with 500-700 stops, making them well suited to battery power. The vehicles will be used in a one-year test program that will help the post office decide how to move forward with electrification if it gets further funding."
