But remember... it's not whether these are realistic promises - but rather whether people will vote on behalf of these promises.
Democrats need to set the record straight, instead of the wishful thinking that these promises will fail of their own merit.
I saw this happening when we elected Barack Obama. Democrats inferred that America had rejected the Bush policies - but that's not what happened. America was only willing to kick out the party in power, and flip the switch. Now that Obama is in the White House, they are willing to flip the switch again, and put the Republicans back in charge.
You gotta face the reality that America has learned NOTHING from the Bush presidency, and are willing to repeat the same mistakes, just because it's "different". If Democrats don't differentiate themselves, then they risk being labeled as "me too", and the Republicans will be given the benefit of the doubt to do a better job. And that's even in spite of Republican tactics being identical to what got us into this mess in the first place. America doesn't seem to understand the difference, unless Democrats do more to set the record straight - and I don't see that happening.
