Our company has a lot of marketing materials and anyone can
visit the store or order merchandise online. Shirts, shorts,
towels, coffee cups, business card holders, water bottles, etc.

I think that the merchandising store is a profit center.

Mozilla has licensing agreements and sells shirts and other
stuff to help the foundation pay salaries of the employees.

When you have a bunch of young gamers identifying with the
chip brand, it seems a natural to sell or even give away
t-shirts.

My Intel Itanium shirt was from a trade show a few years ago.
I recall that Microsoft used to give away a lot of these at
trade shows and local seminars. But it wasn't worth my time
to go to a free seminar for a day or two for a t-shirt.
