I sometimes do that also. It depends upon the situation. Often times the problem is not the price of my bid but just the poor execution of my order. In the case of a bid/ask lock I'm more likely to just up my bid because often that means that the market is getting hit with lots of orders. Normally, my problem is just poor execution.
