SUMMARY OF IMPRESSIONS FROM "LOOKING BACK" (above)

10/29 Volume contracted and our numbers didn't change a
lot. Some were up and some were down. What strength
there was was on the NYSE. Even though the market
seems to have an undercurrent of bullishness (our
Optimism Index is nicely bullish), it looks to me
like most folks are just hanging around waiting to
see what happens next Tuesday. Part of that thinking
comes from the way TRINQ/VXN/VXO are creeping up and
the fact that the bond index has popped back up. The
dollar index and XGLD were both unchanged, and XOI
recovered about 2/3rds of yesterday's loss.

10/28 The indices slowed their mad rush north but still
managed some small gains. Our Optimism Index is bullish.
It's done a good job recently of showing the change in
sentiment. The dollar index was down a trifle, XGLD was
too, and XOI may be falling through support.

10/27 The market indices move up strongly, the bond
index fell quite a bit, and the dollar index edged
up a little. XGLD was volatile but ended down.
XOI fell below $700.

10/26 Our Optimism Index is just hanging around, a little
north of neutral, but not showing much enthusiasm (yet?).
The numbers we watch looked strong today. There were
some caveats, but who wants to make negative statements
on a good-looking day? TRIN tanked but TRINQ didn't
join in. The NYSE Composite and S&P500 both had
excellent moves up. The McClellan Index stopped its
fall and so did the dollar index. XGLD fell and XOI
moved up some more (Hmmm, gas prices went up several
cents in the past week. Surely the oil companies aren't
playing politics ... are they?)

10/25 VXN/VXO are rising. The bond index continues
its climb to new highs for the year. The dollar
index took a header while XGLD gapped up and held.
XOI was steady.

10/22 One day up, next day down. I'm getting seasick.
The dollar index continued its rapid fall ($1.36 in
4 days). XGLD was flat and XOI edged up a little.
