After publication of the story, we have received information that sheds new light on the situation.

We'll try to confirm, but it looks like Apple is going to wait for Sandy Bridge, coming later in 2010.

Now *this* I could actually believe, particularly if Apple is granted early access. Sandy Bridge was demoed in September, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to think Intel could get some parts out in Q3 2010, say, if they wanted to. In which case, they might well not launch new machines in January, only to revamp in the fall.

Maybe even... Sandy Bridge plus Light Peak?

Edit: For the Workstations, though, they're no doubt going to go with Gulftown (6 core Westmere Xeon).

Edit: And so much for the "split between Apple and Intel is wider than ever" crock he was peddling.
