China's mobile gaming market up by 62 pct in 2008
Statistics released by Analysys International show that the whole mobile phone gaming market in China reached 1.365 billion yuan in 2008, up by 62.67% from the previous year, and will reach 4.208 billion yuan in 2011.
The JAVA-platform market accounted for 72% of the total market, the BREW-platform market for 28%.
Revenue of JAVA-enabled mobile phone online games grew rapidly in 2008, increasing 138% to reach 142.8 million yuan. The main reason behind growth was the strengthening of independent operation and promotion capabilities of content providers (CP) and service providers (SP) of JAVA-platform mobile online games.
In 2008, a new batch of gaming companies, such as 3GUU, officially entered the mobile phone online gaming market and launched various kinds of new products which became popular among users. At present, there are already over 50 mobile phone game developers in China.
The compound growth rate of the mobile phone gaming market between 2008 and 2011 will be 45.54%. The high compound growth rate will be mainly driven by users' increasing demand for leisure and entertainment applications, commercial use of 3G networks and rapid development of mobile phone online games.
