Statue of Limitations varies by state. In general, one year misd., 3 year felonies, except those crimes with no limitation: murder, sex crimes, certain embezzlements, yah di yah....however crimes that have an ongoing nature, like you keep doing it and it all relates...kind of like you start a phony company and sell shares and it goes on and on...each theft is not an individual theft but a never ending series of thefts...the statute doesn't interrupt the ongoing crime. Other crimes that are of a continuing nature like stealing from the estate for years or scamming clients or...you get the idea. Single acts treated as single acts. Ongoing acts...never stop. DOJ is Fed and similar. They stretch reality more. DOJ gets into it when they feel excessive abuse and it crosses joint jurisdiction.
