Phew... For a second there, I thought you were referring to the risk that these "excuses" could have cost Intel far more dearly if they had gone to trial.

Well that's possible too. You are living proof of what can happen when people refuse to consider both sides, or even that there can be 2 sides to a story. Intel bought insurance from an emotionally influenced jury and eliminated all of AMD's excuses for failure. A bargain in my book. As chipguy put it, AMD sold their kitchen appliances and thinks they'll save money by eating out. Let em try only who are they going to blame now?
