OT update on my wife. She had a liter of fluid drained last Monday which went well; was not painful and gave her some relief. X-rays show she still has a couple more liters but they can only do about 1 liter every 10 days "give or take"; taking too much at a time can cause pleural edema. Were also told the fluid may take care of itself as the cancer is treated. Had a Pic line put in Wednesday for chemo drip. Had shortness of breath Friday so checked into emergency (O2 sats in the mid 80s) where some small pulmonary emboli were discovered with a CT scan. So she was on Heparin and Lovenox to thin her blood and chemo was started Sunday (Abraxane). Abraxane is a reformulated taxol (paclitaxel) without solvents and less side effects. It's only a 30 minute drip preceeded by a 30 minute anti nausea drip. She felt no side effects yesterday or today and was released from the Hospital at noon today. We went on a fairly level "hike" near the house and her O2 sats are now 93/94. BTW her Cancer is estrogen receptor positive. Progesterone and HER2 are negative. As a cautionary note; a lot of what I'm feeding her is Vitamin K rich (cruciferous veges are loaded with K) and enhance clotting. The Onc said keep it up if you like the thinners will take care of the K problem. Today she looks and feels like a million bucks (OK maybe $900K); go figure? One other note she was given a 5 day antibiotic last Thursday in case there was a lung infection; so now I'm not sure why she's is feeling and looking so well today. Diet? Antibiotics? Chemo? Blood thinners getting rid of the emboli? Thanks for listening.
