We have universal care; it's called "Medicare". Perhaps you should review the skyrocketing cost curve?
We also have Medicaid, perhaps you should review the reimbursement schedule compared to Medicare or private insured?
You might also want to review the budget issues at the state level regarding funding.
I don't believe the public system or the private system will be better or worse at rationing care. They both do it, and will have to more aggressively ration care in the future.
I'm all for the public option, bring it on. But if there is a public option I also feel the private sector should have the option of using the public option reimbursement schedule. I don't believe the argument that the public sector option won't have an advantage negotiating rates. That would be a level playing field. Much has been made of "administrative" costs, I posted a link yesterday that showed Massachusetts health care providers reported administrative costs of around 10% of premiums....strange that their administrative costs are so low yet Massachusetts has one of the most expensive state systems in the country and premiums next year are set to rise around 10%.
Perhaps you should also review the phenomenon called; cost shifting. You'll find every left wing organization refuting it. They refer to it as market pricing..LOL. However, many hospital administrators say they do it regularly to cover shortfalls in revenue.
I'm all for cutting my company's health care premium by 20%, that would save me around $70,000...bring it on.
