It wouldn't matter either way.
If the Public Option doesn't offer superior service for the price compared with the private options, then nobody will opt to use it.
That's the idea of having it as a form of competition. We'd like it to be more competitive than the private industry to help lower costs, but if it isn't, we have nothing to lose.
That's what's so ironic! It's a no-lose option that does great things if it works well, and no harm if it doesn't. Well... no-lose for the American people, that is. If it's effective, then the American Health Insurance industry loses out on profits - and that's why the politics of the day is doing its best to kill it.
