One thing to consider: a lameduck president is more likely to push through the type of unpopular legislation needed to correct some of our current fiscal problems, like Maggy Thatcher did in England. A lameduck would have nothing to lose since he cannot be reelected, and thus has the opportunity to do what is right but unpopular, rather than what is wrong, popular, and most likely to get him reelected.
