JCG: That is not really what the PR says. It says they are adding 7 and have another 20 pending, but it doesn't give the previously granted number. We can be sure there are more because they are listed in Scanbuy's suit.

It is impossible to know how many they own under various arrangements including cross-licensing and exclusive licensing agreements. These do not require an assignment. In addition, many territories do not require an assignment for a purchase, particularly if it is conditional.

It can take lawyers many months or years to make an educated guess on a competitor's portfolio. However, there is little reason to doubt the number. If they are posting the number in a PR, their client's will want access to the list (under NDA and maybe only shared between counsel).
