Actually when I was on my honeymoon the first week of July - a senior guy a Wedbush was on the same cruise and we obviously had a lot to talk about - and he and his analysts were 100% sure a big deal was immenent before September. I happened to tell him we were buying TSPT and getting as much as we could without moving it (he bought some with us in the mid 4's) but the partnership deal never materialized.
So the crux of the story is that fairly well informed and connected people were expecting a major partnership deal announcement in late summer as well. Something either went south unexpectedly or perhaps they were assuming this. But he had a LOT of $$$ riding on the deal as I suspect a number of funds do.
