Dew, you had queried me about Monsanto’s recent CC (#msg-42293324).

I’m having trouble formulating a meaningful response that is succinct. There were several themes that deserve comment. Some relate to Monsanto’s strategy for capitalizing on the global demographic tailwind others are company specific and relate to Monsanto per se. As time becomes available, I hope to address these themes one by one on the respective iHub boards (i.e. #board-15787 and this one).

The two themes that I expect to have the greatest impact upon Monsanto’s fortunes in the next 2-3 years are: 1) the fate of the Round-up franchise and its contribution to free cash flow, and 2) the success of Monsanto’s aggressive introduction of SmartStax corn seed into the marketplace and its effects upon the competition, notably Pioneer Hi-Bred.

The CC provided a reasonable discussion of issues related to the SmartStax theme. It was fairly skimpy on the Round-up theme. ... This is as one would expect; SmartStax is an exciting opportunity, Roundup is a problem.
