Peg -- then again, many states would go ahead -- and Republican-controlled states that said no for starters would remain able to reconsider and say yes later

if the public option does work and prove popular in the states that go ahead with it, then the Republicans controlling the holdout states are just gonna come under increasing and self-inflicted pressure in the heart of what's left of their political empire

and even right off the bat there could be some drama, a Republican prez-hopeful governor somewhere or other who wants the state to say no could get into a bit of a wrangle with the state legislature -- maybe Sanford again? -- I did really enjoy the way he ended up getting bulldozed by the SC legislature into taking that evil fed stimulus money, lol

so at least considered in that light, and even though I am in Texas, which of course would instantly say no, I can't help but think -- hey, if that's the way our current "waah! no!no!no! waah!" Republicans want to play it in their remaining strongholds, well then fine, f 'em -- they'll just end up perfectly stewed in their own juices, in future elections to be carved and served at more and more Democratic victory parties in said remaining strongholds

if this is how it goes, can't wait to see the disparity begin to emerge between the cost of private coverage in states that opt out of the public option, versus in states to go ahead with it -- bet it doesn't take long -- . . .
