Wonderful story KK.... Excellent writing!
I am so happy for you... That is one of life's little experiences that will rest fondly in your memory forever, even if you never even see a glider again.

You grabbed ahold of the edge of the envelope that encompasses our everyday (mundane) life, took that little step, and warped the hell out of that envelope... Marvelous!!!

Great line! If you do take lessons, you may need to befriend 'Bonzai Doc', and have him provide a written "Open Prescription" ... kind of a free pass from work with no hassles from the boss.
What they don't know won't hurt you!

I wonder how many people who read your story thought to themselves... "Now that (or something else) is something I always wanted to try." ... And never get around to actually doing it!
Now, stuff that falls into the stupid - dangerous category does not apply here... But we have to take care of these little loose ends before it is too late to experience them.
