Corning Cable Systems and BPL Global Cooperate
LE MANS, France and BERLIN, September 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- - Two Firms Will Cooperate in Promoting Intelligent In-building Solutions as Part of FTTH Deployments in EMEA
BPL Global(R), Ltd. (BPLG), a smart grid technology company dedicated to leading the transformation of energy and information delivery, and Corning Cable Systems GmbH & Co. KG, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment and a leader in end-to-end fiber optic and copper products will cooperate to leverage their industry expertise jointly in the EMEA region. Through this cooperation, the companies will promote the advantages of building efficiency management solutions to utilities and carriers that are deploying fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) solutions. The cooperation will leverage leading technologies from both companies including Power SG(R) Building Efficiency Management from BPLG and Corning(R) ClearCurve(R) single-mode bend-insensitive optical fiber. The first product to be manufactured and offered by BPLG will be incorporating BPLG's Power SG Building Efficiency Management solution in the Corning Evolant(R) Modular Basement Distribution Terminal (MBDT), an integral part of Corning's AscendTM Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) System.
"Fiber-to-the-home creates vast untapped potential for new consumer services," said Keith Schaefer, CEO of BPL Global. "Cooperating with Corning allows us to bring our building efficiency management solution to multi-dwelling units across Europe served by Corning's Ascend(TM) System utilizing pioneering ClearCurve(R) single-mode optical fiber. Energy savings of more than 10% have been identified by building managers using the Power SG Building Efficiency Management solution."
"Working with BPLG allows our customers to utilize innovative energy management solutions combined with best in class fiber management, thereby reinforcing Corning's commitment to encouraging environmental sustainability ," said J-P Hegemann, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Corning Cable Systems Carrier EMEA. "Our customers will be empowered with new tools to manage their energy use, and achieve energy savings and green building goals."
BPLG's Power SG Building Efficiency Management solution can monitor consumption of electric, gas and water services at the individual unit, building and park level in near-real time. This live view of consumption provides an increased awareness of energy and water use encouraging conservation. Occupants and landlords can set goals for improvement and manage services to a budget. This is part of an energy efficiency action program that engages building occupants to reduce their energy use and track associated savings. Building managers and occupants are empowered to take action to minimize costs and better manage consumption.
In addition to monitoring basic electric, gas and water services, BEM can also actively monitor other important systems and assets within a building. These often include heating/cooling systems, lighting and other significant electrical loads. They might also include distributed generation and storage such as generators, cogeneration assets, solar panels, micro turbines, fuel cells and batteries. Monitoring this equipment provides value to the facility manager by tracking performance and sending alerts when performance is not maintained within control parameters.
Buildings are responsible for at least 40% of energy use in most countries. It is essential to act to improve energy efficiency in buildings as this can make a major contribution to tackling climate change and energy use. BPLG and Corning's combined FTTH and BEM solution empowers end-users to play a central role in improving energy efficiency as a vital part of any energy savings program.
