The number of companies naked shorted to destruction is more than you apparently know. The IOU system has been abused forever ... it is only now, in this well connected, mass partcipation of the public that this cancer of the public markets has not only become apparent but also, more difficult to conceal.

Further, as the exposure of the people on the take grows, (these same ppl charged with regulating those markets and by extension, protection of the general public), so does the anger of investors and said public. Such that lawmakers must act.
