It could be separating the JPM division that handles derivatives. Derivatives can make an entity completely insolvent even though JPM is pretty well capitalized.

China publicly gave Chineses companies the go ahead to default on derivatives. If JPM does separate the division, then the defaults won't hurt any of the other JPM entities or holding company.

Just an opinion and possible scenario. I am sure there are other scenarios.
