Vero: At a minimum, NeoMedia would want the patents asserted by Scanbuy in their suit against NeoMedia. This would eliminate Scanbuy's claim of infringement (with the additional advantage of eliminating the invalidity claims). It would give NeoMedia another 6-12 months of patent protection through Scanbuy's Marshall patent. Finally, NeoMedia would walk away with IP for both major indirect methods.

Scanbuy will want any patents ever asserted against them for infringement.

Where this really matters is significantly eliminates business risk for NeoMedia. The indirect method would really be an combination of methods owned by both parties.

This is a very good thing for the market, standards organizations, and both companies.
