Gold ends at a 5-mo high; copper, silver climb
--1:51pm - By Myra P. Saefong
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Weak U.S. economic data fueled weakness in the dollar, prompting gold futures to close at their highest level in over five months. December gold rose $5.70 to close at $420.40 an ounce in New York. At the same time, copper futures closed at their highest level since at least early March and silver prices ended the day at a more than one-month high on bets for higher industrial demand worldwide. December copper closed at $1.396 a pound, up 0.3 cent and December silver rose 24.3 cents to end at $6.938 an ounce.
