I believe NASCAR (sponsored by Nextel) is looking at doing something with hand-helds at their races. Bringing the fans who use scanners to monitor the driver communication into the new age.

That being said, any company or organization dealing with many people could use this type of idea, connecting a group of people to a central hub via hand helds.

The possibilties are endless.
