NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Citigroup Inc. (C:$4.71,00$0.15,003.29%) shares rose about 4% on Thursday after shareholders approved a trio of resolutions clearing the way for the U.S. taxpayer's stake in the firm to climb to 33.6%. The shares rose 3.7%, to $4.73, after holders ok's an increase to 60 billion shares in the number of authorized shares. American International Group (AIG/PA:$10.7499,$0.4699,4.57%) shares also continued their rise on Thursday, adding 7% to $40.72, absent any news to account for the move. In the broader sector, the Financial Select Sector SPDR , which tracks the financial stocks in the S&P 500, climbed 1.6%.
