"What bible did you get that out of?"
The Old Testament -- are you not familiar with it? The Old Testament was written in Hebrew, with a little Aramaic thrown in, but the passages on the decalogue are in Hebrew, not the King's English. The translation in the KJV is misleading.
You can believe me or not, it makes no difference to me -- I would check it out using a Hebrew Lexicon, but that is just me. If you do your own research you will see that I am correct. By the way, Zeev agreed with me when we had that discussion some years ago.
"Quakers and Catholics to name a few religions have always been able to claim religious exemptions from military service as conscientious objectors."
I cannot speak for the Quakers or the catholics. Being "able to claim religious exemptions" and being faithful to what Scripture teaches are two very different things. I can only tell you what the Bible says, and you can do with it what you want.
"You're living in the Old testament. The subject at hand is would a person of faith torture in time of war."
I try to live by what the whole Bible has to say, be it Old Testament or New. The Bible is one book, and no part of it disagrees with any other as long as you study it diligently, keep it all in context, and compare Scripture to Scripture. God is the same for both Testaments, and He is still the same God now that He was then. God never changes.
From the way RDG's comment was written, "men of faith go to war", I assumed the subject of his comment was killing in war. My apologies to him if I was incorrect.
"Benz made the point through numerous youtube videos that anything goes with respect to islamic faith.
RDG has choosen to avoid the question from a christian perspective."
I would say that it is his prerogative to answer a question or not, especially when it comes to matters of faith. I believe it has been you that has fought so hard to keep religious posts off this board, having deleted a number of mine even though they were all in direct response to something another poster had written.
"The real question is morality. Are we a country that still upholds it's moral values."
I believe our nation is in serious moral decline -- a fact that we can see all around us. We have as a society pretty much rejected Scripture as the moral guideline, and our morals have become entirely subjective about what few morals we hold to still be valid. All too often we are very selective about which "moral values" we uphold.
