I agree with you about faith and reason being in a "harmonious balance" as you said. There's definitely a place for both. But let's face it, like everything else in life, we have extremists on both sides of the coin. You point out the right wing extremists that discard all reason, science, etc. in the name of their religion. On the other extreme, you have people who are so devoted to science and reason that they see no place for faith and religion.

Science answers a lot of questions. But science is bound to the laws and physics of this universe. We're like fish swimming in an aquarium, unable to comprehend what lies outside of the aquarium.

I wish both extremes would sit back and use their head a little more instead of their emotions. For the religious extreme, understanding the point and role of religion is key.
