Glad to throw 2 cents worth, although my knowledge of the Federal system is limited. However, procedure rules are usually about the same. There are many delays in the process that appear sinister, but normally the volumn of cases makes things reach the surface in their own time. The Fed system is less crowded and their speedy trial rules more restrictive. But, the rules can vary by the seriousness or complexity of the case. The goal is to work things out and try those things that have real questions of fact or law. Can't rely on that either since often it is the squeaky wheel or money behind the defendant.
