They turned a national tragedy into a malevolent tool of crass exploitive propaganda.
I hope there is a book forming in the mind a some gifted soldier to write a classic exposing the BS foundation of this.
I can assure you amongst the soldiers there be quite a few that see through all this, may one be a gifted writer .
We have the book Jarhead(a MUST read for the Persian Gulf War--not funny, just hard brutal truth written with passion and skill, and much of it a confessional of a once young "Jarhead" ---it is a so truthful it can get painful)*.
I would, if i was a publisher be trying to get to see if Foreign Correspondent Gettleman has a book wanting to get on paper.
* one element in Jarhead, soldiers have a whole other world of conversation amongst themselves you never hear.
I will say no more, just read the book.
o yes, the soldiers that got on 60-minutes were surely hand picked by the brass, and they had strict guidelines BEFORE they met 60-minutes as to what to say.
if a soldier broke from the guidelines in his interview his military career would be dead regards promotion and his assignments would continue to be quite dangerous.
Remember when a soldier signs up for the military he is voluntarily surrendering his right to freedom of speech.
