This MATK news is pretty interesting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the deal with BP was prompted by XOM’s recent high-profile algae deal with Craig Venter: #msg-39551386.

When XOM (the world’s largest corporation) gets involved in a new technology, the technology goes from “fringe” to “mainstream” in one fell swoop, and this seems to be what happened here.
