"The American people will not be fooled by slogans" - I disagree.
Just look at how close this presidential race is to-date and how many people have bought into the notion that GWB has the ability to be president, yet again. We have become a nation of sound bite news, which works very well for anyone who wants to get their message out with no facts/details to support it. The press helps, BTW. Did anyone from the press demand the admin present any evidence that Iraq had WMD? In 1961, JFK showed the UN photos of the then-USSR shipping equipment to Cuba. In early 80's the Bush, Sr. military had bombs that could go down chimneys. Surely technology has come a long, long way since 1961 and nobody can convince me if Iraq had what GWB claimed, he could have showed the proof to the world. We didn't demand it, instead we swallowed the line GWB gave us. Although it may be a cop-out to say, the press didn't demand it either.
GWB's scare tactic worked wonders on the public - and if you are following the Reps convention this week, you'll see it is still working.
