LINDA DAVIS

Beautiful and Gorgeous don't beging to describe Linda Davis

I'm Yours

For Linda Davis, making records for a company called DreamCatcher is very appropriate. The hardworking singer has been steadfastly following her dreams of becoming a country superstar practically since she could walk and has never wavered in her love and belief in the music she grew up singing and loving. That conviction and excitement for her life's work have never shined brighter than on her debut album for DreamCatcher, titled I'm Yours.

An album chock full of hopes and dreams that reflect both Linda's commendable past and her promising future, I'm Yours reveals a new side of the talented singer in spirit and determination. She has emerged stronger and more effervescent about her dreams and the chance to work on a new recording project with talents like DreamCatcher head James Stroud and his team.

"I feel like I have such a great musical team behind me, and I've always admired James," says Linda. "It makes me feel so confident to have him and the entire DreamCatcher staff with me on this project. Nothing has really changed that much with my music itself, it's the same voice as before, but on this project I'm really throwing away my inhibitions and just putting it out there musically. There's no holding back. These are good times for me, and I'm so happy to be where I am now, and also to have been through what I've already experienced. I think that comes across on this record."

Though having the backing of a powerhouse trio of talent like top DreamCatcher execs Steven Spielberg,' Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen didn't hurt, what really impressed Linda about her new label was their enthusiasm for her work, both past and present. "I'm not an overnight success," admits Linda. "But with DreamCatcher behind me, I know we will make it happen. And I'm proud that they saw positive things in me."

DreamCatcher execs were so proud of the career that Linda has worked so diligently to build, that they tapped several of her previously recorded songs for her new album. Gems like "Company Time," "Love Story In The Making," and the slow-grooving Top 10 smash "Some Things Are Meant To Be" all have their place on the new project alongside some new soon-to-be-hits like the upbeat "I'm Yours" and the touching "From The Inside Out." The album serves as a kind of audio scrapbook for the talented singer, who is proud of the path she's taken that has led her to DreamCatcher' door.

Linda is grateful for her past experiences, including the years she's spent as part of buddy Reba McEntire's band and duet partner. The association has not only yielded Linda a Grammy for her part in the #1 single "Does He Love You," but has also provided her with some valuable knowledge about the business. Linda counts her experiences touring with Reba as some of her most memorable and is happy to have spent the time between recording opportunities in such a lesson-rich environment. "I've been so fortunate to be able to watch Reba and how she makes decisions," explains Linda. "I've learned so much from her. I've been lucky to have bided my time in good places and in a positive, creative environment. That has really made a difference for me through the years in whether I was going to be able to stick it out or pack it in and go home. Perseverance is what pays off, I think. I'm just as hungry for this career now as I was the day I first got to town."

That hunger and excitement pulses throughout Linda's new album, most evidently on songs like "I Wanna Remember This," Linda's debut single for the label, which is also featured on the Black Dog movie soundtrack.

Another milestone in Linda's career was the opportunity "to be a part of something that will live on for a very long time." The recording of a duet, "Make It Through" with Randy Travis for the upcoming The Prince of Egyp country inspired by CD. The project, out November 17, will feature eighteen of Nashville's top entertainers and will be simultaneously released with the movie soundtrack and an inspirational album featuring pop, urban, and gospel artists. The DreamCatcher animated film The Prince of Egypt will open nation wide on December 18.

"I'm really glad that I've been able to continue making music at a level that I can take pride in. Just being able to make music that the fans can hear once again, and still get their hands on and enjoy, is such a privilege. I'm lucky because the fans aren't looking at their watches - they've always been encouraging and supportive. They're so loyal, and that means so much to me. I hope the listener will sense the spirit and rejuvenation reflected on I'm Yours. It's a very full package! I hope the album will hold up and be around for years to come. I think it will. I'm very proud of it."

Cut by Cut - I'm Yours
"I'm Yours" (Phillip Coleman/Carolyn Dawn Johnson)
"This is one that I really love. It's so unique. It's well written, it's lively, and I really love the energy of it. It will be my first "official" single on DreamCatcher!"

"From The Inside Out" (Marc Beeson/Angela Kaset)
"I feel like so many people can relate to this song, because it goes through the different phases of life. It's a positive love song that reminds us to be happy where we are and look for the little things that bring us happiness, because when we're not at our best, if you have the right mate, they love you anyway. It's a really sweet love song."

"Love Story In The Making" (Craig Wiseman/Al Anderson)
"I love this song because it has a happy ending. It was a single for me not too long ago, and I'm a sucker for those songs with a happy ending."

"After A Kiss" (Steven Dale Jones/Carolyn Dawn Johnson)
"This is my favorite song in the whole world. It's so true to life! If you get so crossways with someone that you just want to scream, sometimes you feel like leaving, just walking out. But then you think, 'Wait. We're bigger than this.' Unfortunately, though, a lot of people do walk out. I think everyone has felt that way before and been on the brink. This song will touch people's hearts to the core. "

"Company Time" (Mac McAnally)
"This one was an early single of mine. We did a video to accompany it about sexual harassment. It has an important message about the difficulties of a single mother raising a child in today's world."

"I Wanna Remember This" (Mary Beth Anderson/Jennifer Kimball/Annie Roboff)
"We found this and recorded it rather quickly once we knew I was going to be included on the Black Dog soundtrack. I liked it immediately. Wally Wilson produced the track, and we knew right away it was the right song for me. It's just a positive, uplifting, youthful kind of song. It's a great, fun, summer song."

"Three Way Tie" Lisa Silver/Carol Grace Anderson)
"This is one of the first songs I released, back when I had a deal on Capitol Records. It was on my In A Different Ligh cd, and it was unique because it was a triangle situation. In the video we shot for it, I played an outsider observing the scene. Fans still seem to remember this one whenever I sing it live."

"I Took The Torch Out Of His Old Flame" (Tim Ryan Rouillier/Leslie Satcher)
"The fans have never heard Linda Davis sing a song like this before! It's a fun, sassy, sexy song, and I think it shows off a different side of me that I haven't revealed before."

"Love Didn't Do It" (Steven Dale Jones/Bobby Tomberlin)
"This is a fun song to sing. I shot a live performance video for this and had such a good time doing it. The song doesn't change the world - but when listening to this one everyone can forget about their problems just for a few minutes."

"Through The Cracks" (Steven Dale Jones/Lee Thomas Miller)
"I just love this song so much. It really brings me back to my roots. It's just a good ole country song. And the production we did on it reminds me of the music I grew up listening to. It was really reminiscent of my East Texas roots."

"In Pictures" (Joe Doyle/Bobby E. Boyd)
"This song breaks my heart every time I hear it. It's a sad story that's all too true. Alabama cut it and released it, but I had recorded it on my Shoot For The Moon album. I have relatives in this situation, so it really hits home for me. When I sing it it's almost a way for me to personally count my blessings, since I have a great relationship with my daughter, Hillary."

"What Do I Know" (Cathy Majeski/Sunny Russ/StephonySmith)
"I loved this song from the very beginning. I recorded it on my Some Things Are Meant To Be album, and shortly afterward Ricochet released it as a single. I loved what they did with it - it was a breaking song for them, and at one time I had thought it could have been my breaking song. I still love it even now, and think it's still a great song, so I wanted to include it on this album."

"Some Things Are Meant To Be" (Michael Garvin/Gordon Payne)
"This was my first Top 10 single. It was the title song on my Arista album and I just felt this cd wouldn't be complete without it. It has that fun, slow groove that I really like and it's fun to sing."

"Make It Through" (Tim Mensy/Skip Ewing)
"I was just thrilled to be a part of this, especially because it's going to be part of The Prince of Egypt country inspired cd and I got to sing it with Randy Travis. The film's message and meaning is timeless. I'm really proud to have my name associated with this project, and especially this song."

Previous Bio Information to Follow:

When Linda Davis stepped onto the stage of the 1993 CMA Awards show as a performer, the self-described "country girl from East Texas" could not have imagined that such prestigious venues would soon become familiar territory. But the near future would hold another visit to that stage--as well as that of the Grammys--as a winner. "Does He Love You," her smash duet with Reba McEntire, helped establish Linda as a favorite of fans and one of the most dynamic voices in country. It even landed her an Arista/Nashville recording contract. Her second and current Arista release is titled, Some Things Are Meant To Be.

Linda can trace her way with a song back to age six, when she sang on stage at the "East Texas Jamboree." In her teens, she performed on the popular radio show, "The Louisiana Hayride" and the "Texas grapevine Opry," a weekly live stage show. After several trips to Nashville with her family, the fledgling star gathered her dreams and made the move to Music City. With its deep well of aspiring talent, the Country Music Capitol’s local club scene is fiercely competitive. However, Linda soon found steady work, singing and playing piano as a solo act. The job provided rent money, valuable exposure and, according to Linda, much more: "When it’s just your voice and you on piano, it’s a real intimate situation. You learn so much about how to really get inside a song."

After establishing herself in Nashville as a "singer’s singer," Linda began to develop a national following through her albums, chart singles and videos. In 1989 she signed with Starstruck Entertainment, a move that would lead her to Arista: "Feeling like I’m in the right place, working with the right people is really important to me. It lets me give my absolute best," says Linda. "This is where I had wanted to be for a long time. I’m right at home, and it feels great.
With Some Things Are Meant To Be, Linda hits her full stylistic stride. John Guess was enlisted as producer, and the pair devoted months to finding the right songs for Linda to record. "So much of how an album comes depends on finding great songs," Linda explains. "That should go without saying, but since it goes on behind the scenes, most people don’t even think about it. We really took our time on this album, and a lot of effort went into getting the cream of the crop."
