FWIW I agree that the above quote is probably correct. That CRP probably isn't causitive per se, but that it is correlated with a causitive (inflammatory) path that is distinct from cholesterol. The point of disagreement within the scientific community isn't about CRP causation, but whether inflammation is a separate causation path potentially separately benefitted by statins. And CRP is a reliable proxy for that path.
