AMNESTY An act of oblivion for past acts, granted by a government to persons accused of crimes generally of a political nature, e.g., treason, sedition, desertion. Legally, amnesty differs from pardon in that pardon implies guilt, whereas amnesty does not. Amnesty is the abolition and forgetfullness of the offence.

Paul DioGuardi of www.taxamnesty.org have on his site a DIFFERENT meaning to "AMNESTY"
"We want to help you.
We are here to help you avoid severe financial hardship and criminal prosecution for evading taxes. By using our lawyer-client privilege of confidentiality, we can negotiate a settlement without giving your name to the tax authorities. We can obtain a waiver of criminal prosecution as well as criminal and civil penalties and, in some cases, a reduction of the number of years subject to tax.
Protect yourself and your family. The longer you wait, the larger the fines and the greater the possibility of criminal charges!

We will review your tax situation and then advise our strategy of how we will deal with your tax issue. If you agree to use our services to complete the work, a retainer will be required. "
"Your accountant can be forced to testify against you."
