i don't know if Sistani has had contact with Arun, but he is a highly educated deep scholar.
When the issue of democracy came up he went into deep study as what is democracy and its history so he could recognize what is democracy and what is BS:)
One of the most shocking things i ever read was about 6 months ago Juan Cole, liberal WESTERN EXPERT on Iraq, called Sistani a fanatic implying he was a barbarian.
It revealed, at that time, incredible ignorance of something of vast importance by Cole.
Juan Cole, eventhough being an anti-war liberal before this war started, showed he carries what near all in the West carry, like that of a colonialist smugness studying the savages.
The west fails to realize every time a person, ANY person, nods approval to a bomb dropping in Najaf, is revealing, regardless of Cable-TV,SUV, family; no blood of violence ever on their hands, is nonetheless, a savage barbarian.
All who approve the crimes we commit MUST carry the guilt.
