Concern at nexus between Indian, Nepalese Maoists:

As the rebel Maoists are backed by China and given the exchange of men and material between extremists of India and Nepal, this is a fine line here, but one could say India has been invaded.

Concern at nexus between Indian, Nepalese Maoists:

New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS) :

A parliamentary panel has expressed concern at the growing nexus between Maoist groups in India and Nepal, saying the development had a direct bearing on India's internal security.

Parliament's Standing Committee on Home Affairs urged the government to "take effective steps to check the growing nexus between the extremist organisations".

"The growing nexus between the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M) and the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI) and People's War Group is a matter of concern as it has a direct bearing on the internal security scenario of the country," the panel said in its report tabled in the Rajya Sabha Monday.

The report came at a time when the Maoists in Nepal, in a show of strength, have virtually cut off capital Kathmandu and imposed an economic blockade on the city.

The report quoted reports from the home ministry to say that there had been exchange of men and material between extremists of the two countries.

It said Nepal's Maoists were reported to have received military training in MCCI camps in Bihar and Jharkhand and MCCI rebels, after carrying out violence in north Bihar, were reported to have sought refuge with CPN-M in the border areas of Nepal.

There was also an incident last month of a joint attack by the two sides on a police picket in West Champaran district of Bihar in which a number of weapons and a large amount of ammunition were looted.
