When it come to the point that the discussion dribbles off into a 3-ring "..bash fest..", primarily fueled by a person/people who admit they are uninvolved -- yes. I was addressing the extreme end of the spectrum, although I suspect you knew that.
Discussion is discussion. And you know as well as I do, that when a "..discussion.." transforms itself into a personal battle/jihad on a stock board - the "...contentiousness.." is the issue that I was addressing.
I was not talking about the "..I like the CEO. I don't like the CEO. I'm long. I'm short. CD's provide capital. CD's are toxic. I want them to hire ACME CPAs. I want them to stay with Andersen. Yadda yadda yadda yadda..." discourse. I'm addressing the "...CEO failed to make his car payment in 1973..." grade of crap that everyone recognizes as a freaking vendetta-based soliloquy, specifically designed to set everyone on edge and drive down the price of the stock. And, this certainly applies more to under-a-dollar penny stocks than it does to the high-falutin' big board issues; with the exception of defined Anthony-targets.
Railing on and on using the same statements, spamming old news or facts that are years old, antagonizing the board with repeated bash-posts, and tirades performed under the excuse of "...saving-others-from-the-evil-whatevers..." is BS. General discussion ceases at that point, and the reasonable Pro-Con posters usually clam up or leave. Newbies and/or visitors coming into that situation either get instantly polarized, with little basis for understanding, or they too go away.
Those are the tactics that bashers use to disrupt boards for their own purposes. It's recognizable and it's manageble in the short term using the EPL concept.
If you are not a "...recognizable basher..." on a personal jihad, you would have nothing to be concerned about. If you were, many of your posts would already be disappearing under the "Duplicate" post removal selection.
