Ameritrade insures each SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER up to $25 million regardless of how many accounts you have. It is not on a per account basis. Additionally, I do not have the details as to exactly WHAT that insurance covers and under what conditions. I am sure, as always, that the insuring company (Llyod of London) would have their own intrepretations of coverage in unique situations. This is why I requested a % of my shares as my own personal insurance policy no matter what. I don't expect any problems ever. But I'm covered just in case.
