India denies reports on air-dropping of food in Nepal
Press Trust of India
Kathmandu, August 22

India on Sunday denied Nepalese media reports that it was air-dropping food packets to help people in Kathmandu in the wake of the ongoing Maoist blockade.

"The media reports saying that India is air-dropping food packets in Kathmandu is not true," Sanjay Verma, First Secretary (Information), Indian embassy said.

Nepal has not yet requested India for such help, so there is no question of distributing food packets, he said.

However, he said "if Nepal asks for help, India will definitely give prompt and sincere consideration to the request."

A section of Nepalese media had reported that India was air-dropping food packets in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, the Maoist-sponsored economic blockade in Kathmandu entered fifth day on Sunday, but there was no panic though the prices of the consumables have gone up.

A official said there was enough stock of food, kerosene and petrol to meet demands for a month.
