Normally; confidentiality is provided to protect a patent-protected process; or some sort of "Intellectual Property" such as software or a database of "Patients Names, dates, results, etc.".

Don't know if it applies here; but I'm not breakin' out the James Bond Decoder Pen to figure it out.
