ISTANBUL - Hüsnü Özyeğin, the Turkish businessman who sold his banking unit to National Bank of Greece in 2006, may buy former assets of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in Turkey, Sabah newspaper reported.
Özyegin is interested in buying brokerage Lehman Brothers Securities, which started liquidation procedures in January, Sabah said without saying where it got the information.
Özyegin, who set up a venture with Lehman to buy bad assets from banks, also may bid for Lehman's shares in that company, which were seized by Turkish regulators when the U.S.-based parent company collapsed, Sabah said. Özyeğin agreed to stay out of the Turkish banking industry for three years after the sale of his lender to National Bank of Greece, a period that ends in August, Sabah said.
