We see what we want to see. We acknowledge for the most part only that which is comfortable. You are exceptional in that I know you to be a student of international news and viewpoints. I do not see an earnest effort to understand the interdependence of international politics being made by the majority of Americans. When 57% of Americans have no idea who Putin is, that is scary.

Myopically we see the world through our own narrow perspective. Yet as a member of a global community that is not only ludicrous but a grave mistake.

I think what you have just written is very insightful and indicative of the fact that not only do we have little effect on the ‘larger program’ both the Republican and Democratic Parties are controlled by the ‘larger program’.

How else can we explain that John Kerry isn't taking full advantage of the war issue to make his case for regime change in Washington? Why did the Democratic Party higher ups say nyet to a strong antiwar sentiment early on? Why did Bush refrain from repudiating Clinton's policies in the Balkans? Why do we not see more criticism of opposing parties? Better yet why do the Democrats and Republicans parallel each other to such a degree?

This is very much like professional courtesy between colleagues not opponents.
