The hitch on Taiwan i see is the present leader of Taiwan, he is flashing indications he will be pushing for Taiwan statehood.
This would be a monkey wrench in China 25year plan, and , as they make clear; totally intolerable and will be confronted if this move occurs.
Point being, if Taiwan makes an aggressive move for statehood, China ceases to be pragmatic.
i have a friend that just returned from teaching english in China and like an 8 year old raises his hand saying 'Teacher! Teacher! what about Formosa, what is U.S. view on Formosa'---young whipper-snapper:)
So the my point is IF Taiwan makes a move for statehood, and U.S. is perceived as supportive, this is the one area where China will cease to be pragmatic, imo.
That is JUST 'a what if?' scenario.
