A gas station is demolished along highway 41 in Port Charlotte, Florida after hurricane Charley hit August 13, 2004. Hurricane Charley slammed Florida's west coast with winds of 145 mph (233 kph) on Friday, striking farther south than expected and swamping the vulnerable shore with a wall of water up to 15 feet (4.6-meters) high.
